Winsor McCay

One of the founding fathers of U.S. newspaper comics, Zenas Winsor McCay (1869-1934) was a staff cartoonist at The New York Herald when he created Dream of the Rarebit Fiend, which ran from 1904-11, and Little Nemo in Slumberland, which ran from 1905-14. McCay was also a pioneer of animation and his 1914 creation, Gertie the Dinosaur, was the first animated film to feature a dinosaur.
