William McNamara
William McNamara, or Abba Willie, as his friends call him, has been a monk all his life. Inspired by the Carmelite rule and spirit, blessed and directed by good Pope John, he became the first ecclesial hermit in the United States. Subsequently he founded the Spiritual Life Institute, established four communities of apostolic hermits, and now lives alone in a fifth hermitage in New Pine Creek, Oregon.
