Warren R. Higgins is a World War II pilot, successful retired business executive, and active grandpa. He spent his executive career in engineering and manufacturing, and retired in 1986 as vice president and general manager at the Deutz-Allis Company in Independence, Missouri. Warren has been an active Rotarian since 1959. He has served on bank and hospital boards and helped start a community foundation in his perennial spirit of giving back to his community. In addition to The Wednesday Pen, Warren created two more legacies as a grandpa. He cross-stitched an heirloom-quality quilt as a gift for each of his eight original grandchildren. Then, when they turn eighteen and graduate high school, he takes each grandchild on the trip of their choice. Two have already gone with him. When Warren turned eighty-five, he thought it best to have his four children accompany the remaining six grandchildren on their trips. He had one stipulation: each grandchild could not go with his or her parent but with an aunt or uncle. It was his way of enhancing the experience. Warren keeps his life vital and vibrant. Even today, whenever he speaks to community groups, he hands out his card with the title "American Patriot and Veteran," and often leads the group in singing "God Bless America." See less
