In 1969, in collaboration with H.R. Shapiro, he wrote and published a journal about American politics called The Public Life. He was active on the Freedom to Write Committee of the PEN American Center and wrote the foreword to a 1988 book sponsored by PEN, Liberty Denied: the Current Rise of Censorship in America. A collection of his essays on American politics, Buried Alive: Essays on our Endangered Republic, was published in 1992 by Franklin Square Press. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Karp graduated from Columbia College where he was class valedictorian. See less
