Vilis Inde
Vilis Inde is a first generation Latvian whose first language was Latvian. He was raised in the hope that the family could one day return to an independent Latvia. His immersion in Latvian culture was great. As a child, he participated in a theatrical production of "The Golden Horse." The idealism presented by Rainis has stayed with him his entire life. Vilis Inde is a first generation Latvian whose first language was Latvian. He was raised in the hope that the family could one day return to an independent Latvia. His immersion in Latvian culture was great. As a child, he participated in a theatrical production of "The Golden Horse." The idealism presented by Rainis has stayed with him his entire life. After practicing law in New York and Minneapolis, Inde wrote "Art in the Courtroom" (Praeger 1998) and created a photo book "Signs of Marfa" (2009). He began to translate "The Golden Horse" a number of years back. The goal was to provide an English speaker with an opportunity to learn some important aspects of Latvian culture. Inde has traveled to Latvia on numerous occasions both pre and post 1991 Independence.
