Vijay Bansal was born in pre-partition Lahore on 4th September, 1942 in a large middle class joint Hindu Family. His father was a known Barrister practising Income Tax & Company Law. The family comprising of his parents, six brothers and one sister moved to Dehradun in 1947 when Hindi-Muslim riots were at its peak. Vijay Bansal was born in pre-partition Lahore on 4th September, 1942 in a large middle class joint Hindu Family. His father was a known Barrister practising Income Tax & Company Law. The family comprising of his parents, six brothers and one sister moved to Dehradun in 1947 when Hindi-Muslim riots were at its peak. His father re-established himself and the family in a nice bungalow in Dalanwala in a house known and named as "Shanta Place" after his mother's name which is presently sold and converted to the Sharda Nursing Home. Vijay did his Senior Cambridge in 1957 and went on to the reputed Hindu College at University of Delhi to complete his B.A. (Honours) & M.A. in English before appearing for the IAS Examination in 1965. He served for about thirty five years in various responsible positions in the State of Himachal Pradesh besides one stint on deputation to Delhi as Director in the Joint Intelligence Wing of the Cabinet Secretariat. He has a literary and patriotic bent of mind and has written several poems and articles before embarking upon his maiden venture of writing a pictorial autobiography after fifteen years of his superannuation.
