Susan E. Stone, DNSc, CNM, FACNM, is the President and Dean of the Frontier Nursing University, Hyden, Kentucky where she has served as faculty since 1993. From 1989 - 1999, Dr. Stone was Program Director for the Prenatal Care Assistance Program and a full-scope CNM at Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown, NY. She has been a Certified Childbirth Educator since 1982 and a CNM since 1991. She has published in the" Journal of Midwifery, Distance Education in Nursing, Annual Review of Nursing Education" and "Advances for Nurse Practitioners". Her chapter in Clinical Teaching in Nursing Education (2006) addressed clinical education for nursing students in distance learning programs. Dr. Stone is the Principal Investigator on four HRSA grant-funded research projects. She recently received two national awards: 2011 Rural Nurse Educator (National Rural Health Association) and the prestigious 2011 Felicia Stewart Advocacy Award (American Public Health Association), recognizing her strong commitment to advocacy on behalf of reproductive health and rights.
