A self-described "serial entrepreneur," Sue Whitaker's career path has included owning a retail store, a marine business, an apparel design and manufacturing company, and a wine marketing business. When Sue became a Senior Citizen, she became acutely aware of the many issues people are confronted with before, during and after retirement. Watching Seniors -- including herself -- being faced with financial concerns due to economical downturns, loneliness, boredom and lack of purpose, it became apparent that too many people were falling into the "is this all there is?" syndrome. Her book series -- A Senior's Journey - will be relaying her experiences and suggestions on various topics that may be of benefit to people during their journey to find new joy, purpose and meaning to their later years in life. Job or Entrepreneur? How to Prepare to Un-Retire -- was written to ease Comeback Seniors back into the workforce no matter whether they want to get a job, or become an entrepreneur and own a business. Taking this one "step" further... ...with a strong and confident spirit - and by virtue of her goal to help others -- Sue knew she was heading toward something meaningful when she founded the nonprofit entity, Slippers for Seniors (information below), to put a smile on the face of every Senior in an assisted living or nursing home in the United States. (She intends to donate a portion of the proceeds from her books to keep the program alive and thriving.) Sue managed several local and national political campaigns; was appointed by two governors to serve on various boards and commissions; and was appointed as an ambassador to the People to People Program, and as a delegate/speaker to the National Women's Business Summit. She has served on several boards of directors for charitable organizations, and has been a lifelong community volunteer because she believes in giving back to the community. As a public speaker she has spoken before a U.S. Senatorial Committee on private enterprise issues, marketing classes at several universities, civic organizations, corporate meetings, conventions and major events. She's also a former host of The Business Lovemaker and Wine Clubs Online radio shows. Sue Whitaker is the daughter of school teacher parents who instilled in her the mindset that continued education is essential for a quality life. She has five children, eleven grandchildren, and currently resides in Coronado, California. See less
