Steve Ward's cancer, heart attack and aneurysm experiences motivated him to become more involved. He became a member of the cancer center's Patient Family Advisory Council and a Relay for Life Co-Captain. He also is a Prostate Consumer Peer Reviewer with the Congressionally Directed Mandated Research Programs, (CDMRP), under the direction of the Department of Defense, (DOD). Their responsibility is to determine how the appropriated budget will be awarded to fund future cancer research. Also a speaker of encouragement before various groups to let them know they are not alone and to share ways to better their journey.
