Sonia Hu, known by her pen name Niu Yue Tao Hua, is an esteemed program producer, writer, and publisher. Starting her career as an assistant director and producer for networks like CCTV (China Central Television Network), CBS, and MTV, she ventured into writing in the 1980s with works featured in magazines like Foreign Drama and Reader's Digest. Sonia became a member of the Chinese Women Journalists Association. She graduated with a master's in television production and broadcasting journalism from Brooklyn College in the early 1990s. During 1994-1995, at MTV Music Network, she produced three daily music television programs for MTV Asia and established Mainland China's first popular music channel, "Village of Heavenly Sound." In 2019, she founded Long Publishing Corp., continuing as its publisher. Her documentary From Stone to Stone won the Best Short Film Director Award at the Berlin Independent Film Festival in November 2024. Sonia has been actively publishing nonfiction articles, poetry, and novels in Chinese newspapers and magazines across the United States, China, and Taiwan since 2015. Her works have repeatedly garnered top awards in literary contests. Her biographical literature, Shanghai Forever Lost, and nonfiction collection, Reminiscence of Fleeting Time, received the inaugural Excellent Creative Award for Overseas Chinese Film and Television Literature in 2022 and the top prize at the Overseas Chinese Literary Awards in 2023, respectively.
