Simonetta de Filippis is Professor of English Literature at the Universita degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale", Italy. Simonetta de Filippis is Professor of English Literature at the Universita degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale", Italy. She has published on twentieth century novelists and playwrights, but her main research interests focus on D. H. Lawrence and William Shakespeare. She is the editor of the Cambridge and the Penguin editions of Sketches of Etruscan Places and Other Italian Essays (1992, 1999), and has published essays on Lawrence's travel writing, plays and short novels in national and international publications. She organised the 8th International Lawrence Conference, D. H. Lawrence and Literary Genres (Naples, 2001) and edited its proceedings (2004), and was co-executive director of the 13th international Lawrence Conference, D. H. Lawrence: New Life, New Utterance, New Perspectives (2014). In the field of Shakespearean studies, she has published essays on The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet, Pericles and The Tempest, a book on Shakespeare's "Last Plays" - Teatro come sperimentazione.
