Sandra E. Whitten earned a Master of Arts in Education with a research focus on the effective design of cooperative learning activities and environments. As a Research Associate at Fordham University, she studied the design of effective unsupervised individual learning, and co-authored presentations of this work that have been given in the United States and in Europe. During her 36-year career as an educator, Sandra Whitten served on the faculties of middle schools and high schools in Michigan, New York, and New Jersey, where she taught English and social science to students of all ability levels from ages 12-18. She coordinated her school's participation in a statewide poetry festival, mentored fellow teachers, advised the school literary magazine, coached public speaking, and established and led a school-wide service club. Sandra Whitten's Advanced Placement English program has been commended for excellence by the College Board. She has been recognized by Princeton University as one of the top teachers in New Jersey, and the Masonic Lodges of New Jersey selected her as the State Educator of the Year. See less
