Russ Rodgers has served with armor, infantry, and military intelligence during a varied U.S. Army career. He received his Masters degree with honors in Land Warfare from the American Military University and is currently an Army Command Historian, and former Adjunct Professor of History. Rodgers is an acknowledged expert on insurgency warfare, in particular the techniques of Islamic asymmetric insurgency operations, a topic on which he writes and lectures on extensively having conducted classes in such locales as Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Rodgers is the author of the Fundamentals of Islamic Asymmetric Warfare: A Documentary Analysis of the Principles of Muhammad, published by the Edwin Mellen Press, and a military biography of the Prophet Muhammad entitled The Generalship of Muhammad: Battles and Campaigns of the Prophet of Allah, published by the University Press of Florida. In addition, Rodgers has published other works of military history such as The Rise and Decline of Mobility Doctrine in the U.S. Army, 1920-1944, published by the Edwin Mellen Press, and the Historic Photos of General George Patton, from Turner Publishing. He has also contributed a chapter on suicide bombers in Terrorism's Unanswered Questions, released by Praeger, and is a contributing editor to The Encyclopedia of Middle East Wars [5 Volumes]: The United States in the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq Conflicts, published by ABC-CLIO. His latest publication, released in early 2016 is entitled Understanding the Islamic Worldview. In addition to his professional publications, Rodgers has written or edited over a dozen major historical reports for the U.S. Army, along with dozens of articles on various aspects of U.S. Army history. He has also conducted staff rides for both Army and foreign military personnel at a wide range of battlefields in both the United States and Europe. He continues to pursue fieldwork, engaging in ongoing research on early German castles and fortifications. Besides his military and academic career, Rodgers has over 25 years of political experience, working on over 60 electoral races ranging from city council to presidential level of which he has been successful in over 75% of these, and has in addition conducted state level lobbying efforts on a variety of issues.
