Dr Ross Spark is the Director of the Tropical Public Health Unit Network for Queensland Health, based in Cairns, a position he has held since 1993. Ross has spent most of his career in northern Australia, primarily involved with tropical and Indigenous health issues. Dr Ross Spark is the Director of the Tropical Public Health Unit Network for Queensland Health, based in Cairns, a position he has held since 1993. Ross has spent most of his career in northern Australia, primarily involved with tropical and Indigenous health issues. He was Senior Research Fellow in the School of Public Health at Curtin University in Perth from 1989-92 where he conducted health promotion research in the Kimberley region. Prior to that he spent five years as Director of Health Promotion Services with the Northern Territory Department of Health in Darwin. Ross has undergraduate degrees (B.Ed, B.A) from the University of Queensland, a Master of Science degree (in public health) from the University of Oregon and a PhD from the School of Public Health at Curtin University in Perth. He holds adjunct academic appointments as Associate Professor in the School of Public Health at Curtin University, the School of Population Health at the University of Queensland and the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at James Cook University. Ross has also consulted internationally in the Asia-Pacific region in the area of public health and health promotion for AusAID, the Secretariat of Pacific Communities and the World Health Organisation.
