Rod Sumpter

Rod Sumpter is an internationally recognized national surfing champion who has won championships in England, Australia, Ireland, and the United States. He is the first person to successfully surf the Severn Bore in England for six miles. Rod is also the only surfer in the world to hold three national surfing titles consecutively. Rod Sumpter is an internationally recognized national surfing champion who has won championships in England, Australia, Ireland, and the United States. He is the first person to successfully surf the Severn Bore in England for six miles. Rod is also the only surfer in the world to hold three national surfing titles consecutively. Over the past forty years he has surfed in twenty-five countries and ahs two surfing locations named after him that are credited in surfing guides. The first location is called Sumpters in North Wales, and the other is called Sumpters Point in South Wales. Rod is an experienced former staff photographer for "Surfer"""Magazine. His photograph was used on the cover of the "Beach Boys 20 Golden Greats" album. Rod received the Gold Television award for his water photography. Rod starred in the originial classic surf movie, "The Endless Summer"and became the European Surfing Champion in 1989. See less
