He became a partner in a distinguished Los Angeles law firm and, later, administered national housing programs in Washington, DC. Following that, he returned to the private sector as a real estate developer dedicated to providing homes for low-income persons. More recently he is an award-winning novelist, newspaper columnist, restaurateur, and avid sailor who has travelled in more than 100 countries and on seven continents.
