His main research interests concern building physics and its applications to the design of buildings and urban envelopes towards the design of resilient built environments. Further, he investigates the mutual influence between buildings - and their energy needs - and the urban microclimate. Riccardo has been bridging urban heat studies and heat and moisture transport in building materials and components and researched extensively the performance over time of building envelope materials for heat mitigation.
