Ralph E Vaughan is the author of several Sherlock Holmes novels and stories, notably "The Adventure of the Ancient Gods," the first-ever crossover between the literary worlds of Holmes and fantasy writer HP Lovecraft. Other Holmes books include "The Terror Out of Time," "The Dreaming Detective," and "Sherlock Holmes and the Coils of Time." He is the creator of the popular Paws & Claws YA adventure series, beginning with "Paws & Claws: A Three Dog Mystery," in which the amazing canines of the Three Dog Detective Agency protect the weak and innocent inhabitants of their neighborhood, thwart the evil plans of the nefarious Feral Gang, and occasionally save the world. The series includes "A Flight of Raptors," "K-9 Blues," and the controversial "The Death & Life of American Dog." Among his science fiction books is "Shadows Against the Empire," an interplanetary steampunk adventure set in 1882. A writer since the late 1960s, he has published more than 300 short stories in a variety of magazines and journals, some of which are included in "Beneath Strange Stars," a collection of tales from more than forty years of writing. His interest in history has resulted in several several tales and articles about the Old West, as well as "Reflections Upon Elder Egypt," a collection of essays about Egypt and its influence upon the present. A former military photojournalist, he has written hundreds of feature articles; as an expert on fantasy writer HP Lovecraft, he has written many articles for fannish and scholarly journals, as well as the authoritative "HP Lovecraft in the Comics." He is a long-time resident of Chula Vista, California. He is married and has two children, a daughter who is a game designer and playwright and a son who is a conductor for the BNSF railway system.
