Reuven Amitai holds the Eliyahu Elath Chair for Muslim History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is dean of the Faculty of Humanities there. His earlier publications include Mongols and Mamluks: The Mamluk-Ilkhanid War, 1260-1281 (Cambridge, 1995) and The Mongols in the Islamic Lands: Studies in the History of the Ilkhanate (Aldershot, 2007).
