Alberto Gonzalez, nacio en Rensoli, cerca de la ciudad de Moron, Cuba, el 11 de octubre de 1954, es ingeniero quimico, egresado de la Universidad de Las Villas en 1976, y especialista en Procesos Electroquimicos, aunque nunca penso estudiar Ingenieria Quimica, ya que su pasion eran las Humanidades; sin embargo, debido a leyes no escritas de la des-Revolucion Cubana, en su ano de graduacion del Preuniversitario las plazas para estudiar Licenciatura en Lengua Inglesa estaban muy limitadas, y no califico para obtener una, asi que le asignaron "Licenciatura en Informacion Cientifica," pero como el titulo de esa carrera le resulto muy complicado, opto por estudiar Ingenieria Quimica, para suerte suya y de su familia. No obstante, la pasion por las letras nunca lo abandono, y en Moron, donde crecio, fue colaborador de la revista Turiguano, y uno de sus primeros poemas, titulado "Obligacion," gano un premio en un concurso literario en Camaguey, y tambien en El Caiman Barbudo, un importante tabloide literario cubano, le publicaron algunos de sus poemas. Trabajo en la Planta de Cloro Soda de la Electroquimica de Sagua desde su graduacion hasta su "desercion" en Gander, Canada, en 1990, y vivio en Edmonton, Alberta, hasta 1999, ano en que decide dejar el crudo invierno de Edmonton por Miami, la ciudad del sol y de los cubanos. Este Diario de un desertor lo escribio a partir del mismo dia en que decidio dejar el avion que lo llevaba a Moscu, y lo concluyo casi tres anos despues, cuando finalmente Miriam, su esposa, y sus dos hijos, Mirielle y Jorge Alberto, fueron autorizados por el gobierno cubano a salir de Cuba; su intencion, segun sus propias palabras, "era poder liberar las tensiones que se iban acumulando en el dia a dia de una nueva vida, en un pais desconocido y lejos de sus seres queridos, y que estas vivencias, incertidumbres y preocupaciones quedaran reflejadas en dicho diario, para que no se perdieran, y que al ser leidas se pudiera entender mejor el drama cubano y el de sus numerosisimos 'desertores'.""
