Philip St George Cooke

Colonel (later Major General Philip St. George Cooke (1805-1895) was a native of Leesburg, Virginia, a West Point Class of 1827 graduate, and a 30-year cavalry veteran of the frontier service, the Black Hawk War, and the Mexican War. Although a Virginian, Cooke remained in federal service during the Civil War, even though his son joined the Confederacy and his daughter was the wife of Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart.
