Paul R. Brown, Ph.D., CPA is Chairman of the Department of Accounting, Taxation and Business Law of the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Texas, Austin and has served on the faculties of the Yale School of Organization and Management and INSEAD. He is the founding editor-in-chief of The Journal of Financial Statement Analysis. The journal is published by Institutional Investor with the objective of enhancing the understanding and interpretation of firm's activities in the context of financial statements. Professor Brown has published extensively in both The Journal of Financial Statement Analysis and a wide range of other academic and professional publications. Recent research has examined regulatory issues related to auditor independence, and the importance of industry-specific factors when assessing firms in the biotechnology and high technology industries. Prior to entering academe, he worked as an auditor for Arthur Andersen & Co., and as a staff member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Professor Brown is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Accounting Association. See less
