The author, Pat Yamin, was born and raised in the Midwest. She learned to sew at a very young age - with many siblings, if you wanted something you either made it or did without. A graduate of Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan with a Liberal Arts degree and a Major in Political Science, Pat went on to earn a Masters degree in Psychology from Long Island University. For the next 18 years she counseled inner city youth in New York. Her evening therapy was quilting and she realized the need to supply quilters with the tools they needed to make there own quilts. In 1981 while still counseling, she started her own mail order company - Come Quilt with Me - in her home and devoted evenings and weekends to building the business. Pat, her husband Steve and son Jared continue to operate CQWM from their old Victorian style house in Brooklyn, NY where it all began and have turned it into a successful web company that continues to grow. Pat's accomplishments are many. In addition to being the CEO of CQWM, Pat is a "people person". Her bubbly personality makes her an especially popular teacher and lecturer at guilds and conventions all over the country. She has made numerous guest appearances on TV and radio programs - the most notable with Ricky Timms, Alex Anderson and Martha Stewart, is a Bernina Ambassador, a designer for Dritz templates, designed a line of fabric for Marcus Fabrics, and sponsors annual Quilting Retreats in the US and Hawaii. Her vast collection of quilts and quilt tops are often requested for display at national quilt shows. The original rotating cutting turntable knows as the Brooklyn Revolver was Pat's brainchild. She has been designing and manufacturing acrylic templates since 1991 and never stops looking for tools and techniques to make quilting easier and more accurate. According to Pat, her success is the result of customer feedback - she listens to her customers' suggestions. See less
