Through eight chapters the book describes the structural situation faced by communities in the Afro-Choco region on the Colombian Pacific coast, using data collected during anthropological fieldwork conducted in the Choco region. Some of the key issues addressed in this book include the forms of organization of black communities, their coexistence with indigenous communities, the two communities joint resistance against the State and their struggle to defend traditional territory, thus contributing to our understanding of the precarious situation in which this population still lives even though its inhabits one of the areas greatest biodiversity still remaining on the planet.
