Martha Byrd

Martha Byrd was born near Morganton, North Carolina, in 1930. She was educated in the Burke County and Morganton City school systems, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1952. Martha Byrd was born near Morganton, North Carolina, in 1930. She was educated in the Burke County and Morganton City school systems, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1952. She later obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Her written works include A World in Flames: A History of World War II (published by Athenaum in 1970 and reprinted by Smithmark in 1992), Saratoga: Turning Point of the American Revolution (published by Auerbach in 1973), Chennault: Giving Wings to the Tiger (published by University of Alabama Press in 1987), and numerous magazine and newspaper articles. Her one novel, A Shoebox of Violets, was published posthumously by Laney-Smith in 1995. Martha Byrd died of cancer in 1993. See less
