Miriam Sagan

Miriam Sagan was born in Manhattan, grew up in New Jersey, studied in Boston, and lived on the coastal extremes of Martha's Vineyard and San Francisco before settling in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1984. She founded and runs the creative writing program at Santa Fe Community College. Miriam Sagan was born in Manhattan, grew up in New Jersey, studied in Boston, and lived on the coastal extremes of Martha's Vineyard and San Francisco before settling in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1984. She founded and runs the creative writing program at Santa Fe Community College. She is the author of over twenty-five books, including Searching for a Mustard Seed: A Young Widow's Unconventional Story, which won a Best Memoir of the Year Award from the Independent Publishers Association. Her travels have taken her to remote locations as a writer-in-residence, including such settings as national parks, sculpture gardens, a trailer in the Great Basin, and Iceland. She has received a Santa Fe Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts and the New Mexico Literary Arts Poetry Gratitude Award. Her text installations have included poetry on laundry lines, trees, glass, sculpture, aprons, earrings, sand trays, and haiku street signs. She has also written a poem directly on Miami's South Beach, during a residency at The Betsy Hotel. Her artistic collaborations include working with her daughter, visual artist Isabel Winson-Sagan.
