Mike Finch first covered triathlon in 1991 as a sports journalist for the South African Press Association, and later as triathlon editor for leading cycling magazine Cycle. He played a part in the development of triathlon as a sport in his role as editor of Runner's World (South Africa), including an award-winning monthly column in the magazine.
