Mick O'Donnell grew up in the Hunter Valley N.S.W. the product of the former Maitland Marist Brothers College. He served with the Royal Australian Navy 1962>1982, mainly in radio communications, serving in the Borneo confrontation and the Vietnam conflict. Mick O'Donnell grew up in the Hunter Valley N.S.W. the product of the former Maitland Marist Brothers College. He served with the Royal Australian Navy 1962>1982, mainly in radio communications, serving in the Borneo confrontation and the Vietnam conflict. He joined the Australian Federal Police initially with the Bureau of Criminal Intelligence in 1985. His professional background as a management consultant, and computer systems officer shaped his philosophy to continually pose the question in the context of efficiency and effectiveness: "There is always a better way." Between 2004 and 2009 he was with the AFP International Deployment Group and peacekeeping missions in PNG, New Guinea, Bougainville, the Solomon Islands [RAMSI], East Timor, and Indonesia. He studied creative writing at the University of Canberra, and his writing genre is Historical Fiction. He holds a Bachelor of Theology from the Sydney College of Divinity, and a Master of Arts from the Australian Catholic University, and lives in Canberra with Dutch born wife Cora, his ever patient Princepessa of 49 years. His hobby is researching war history and the incredible stories of men and women who become involved in these conflicts. Jeep He can often be seen driving his restored 1945 Military Jeep, named Betty Boop, around the Australian National Capital. Betty is dedicated to Mick's father, John who served with the 2/7th Armoured Division and the Far East Liaison Office during WW2, and Mick's Mother, Marjorie, John's wife of 38 years until his death in 1980.
