During his grade school and middle school years, he crafted numerous poems and short stories, both as assignments and as heartfelt gifts for his family, particularly his mother. His artistic flair extended to the visual arts, where he produced impressive paintings and sculptures during art classes.After graduation, Michael embarked on a nine-year enlistment with the U.S. Army, including stints in Germany and Okinawa, Japan. His travels extended to diverse Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand. Immersing himself in their unique cultures, vibrant traditions, and breathtaking landscapes, he gained invaluable insights and experiences that profoundly enriched his life and broadened his perspective.Following his military service in 1986, Michael embarked on a cross-country journey, working in various administrative and data processing roles while contemplating his future. Tragically, he contracted a life-threatening virus during his military service, leading to depression and a devastating addiction that nearly claimed his life twice.Michael eventually found hope and a path to recovery through self-help programs that addressed addiction and offered a renewed outlook on life, drawing upon his deep-rooted spirituality.
