Matthew Graves is Matre de confrences / Associate Professor in British and Commonwealth Studies at Aix-Marseille University (LERMA research centre), a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and an alumnus Fellow of the Australian Prime Ministers Centre. His teaching and research focuses on 'shared history', commemorative politics and geographies of remembrance in 20-21st century Europe and Australasia, as well as 19th century speculative geographies and blueprints for political and social reform. The current book project on 'memorial diplomacy' is based on the author's research undertaken at the Museum of Australian Democracy, Canberra, and in the course of a visiting fellowship at The University of Sydney during which he co-authored the chapter on Australian war memory for the Prost-Wieviorka report, commissioned by the French government as part of the Great War centenary 'shared memory' project.
