Mark Mendenhall holds the J. Burton Frierson Chair of Excellence in Business Leadership at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mark Mendenhall holds the J. Burton Frierson Chair of Excellence in Business Leadership at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He received his B.S. degree (1980) in psychology and his Ph.D. degree (1983) in social psychology, both from Brigham Young University. Dr. Mendenhall is an internationally recognized scholar in the field of international human resource management, his area of expertise being the cross-cultural adjustment of expatriate managers. His other research and consulting interests are in the areas of leadership and organizational change, the non-linear dynamics of organizational systems, and Japanese organizational behavior. He has coauthored four books including Readings and Cases in International Human Resource Management. Besides being a weekly columnist for the Chattanooga Times (his column, "Mendenhall on Management" has been in circulation since 1990), he is active in the Academy of Management, and is past president of the International Division of that organization. He has published numerous research articles which have appeared in over 18 journals. Dr. Mendenhall has conducted workshops and seminars on principles of leadership development, cross-cultural adjustment for overseas executives, and doing business with the Japanese. He has worked with a diversity of companies, some of which include: IBM-Asia Pacific, IBM-Japan, NASA, Boeing, Xerox, Whirlpool, McKee Foods, Maytag, Columbia/HCA, Suburban Manufacturing Company, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Tennessee Valley Authority, American Heart Association, Mitsui Manufacturers Bank, The Space & Rocket Center, and Dixie Yarns.
