Among his many books are "Exile's Return,"" After the Genteel Tradition,"" "and, most recently, "The Faulkner-Cowley File." Henry Dan Piper is Profes-sor of English at Southern Illinois University. His most recent book is "F. Scott Fitzgerald: A Critical Portrait."
