Daring, if rather foolhardy, 'escape from Syria' across the closed border with Turkey during heightened political tensions in 2005, prior to the Syrian Civil War. Participation in the Alonissos (Greek) Multi-Terrain Marathon in 2007 as a retirement challenge set by his wife, Viv. Now retired and living in the English Lake District. See less
