Louise D. (Gagné) Jewell grew up in a tiny village in rural Québec. She began her writing and illustrating career at fourteen as the editor and publisher of Just a Little, a community newspaper widely circulated in Edelweiss Valley, Wakefield, Québec, in the summer of 1973.
