Since she became certified as an athletic trainer in 1980, Lorin has put her knowledge and experience to good use by helping numerous students study for and pass the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification exam. Not only has she served as an examiner for several NATA exams, which has given her insights into common errors students make on the test, but she also has taken numerous certification tests herself and learned firsthand about test-taking strategies and skills. Lorin received an MS in education from the University of Michigan in 1981. She is a member of NATA, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association, and the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society. She earned the NATA Distinguished Service Award in 1999 and in 2000 and became a certified athletic administrator (CAA). In addition to being a frequent speaker at NATA national clinical symposiums, Lorin is the author of several articles on injury prevention. In 1994 she became the first woman, as well as the first high school athletic trainer, to be elected president of District IV of NATA. She is also the coauthor of Athletic Training for Student Assistants. In 2001, she was honored as part of the inaugural class of distinguished alumni in residence at Grand Valley State University.
