Being born cat-obsessed led to collecting and studying all things Cat from an early age. Simple cat drawings and paintings began by age four, and progressive development of more complicated cat art has continued throughout her life. In her twenties she began a series of pastel cat portraits in the Realism style, which led to the decision to pursue a formal art education. Lisa Strassheim has explored, and had success with, various art forms including painting, drawing, jewelry design, and porcelain cat dolls. She has exhibited and sold her abstract paintings in art galleries internationally. Her latest exploration is cat-themed coloring books for coloring enthusiasts. Each cat illustration begins using old school techniques of pencil on paper, giving them an imperfect sketch-like quality. The artist finds that making art in this way creates a relaxing meditative mood, as she experienced while creating abstract paintings; coloring the illustrations has a similar effect.
