Kelisa Wing is the 2017 Department of Defense State Teacher of the Year as well as a 2016 Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Emerging Leader. Kelisa Wing is the 2017 Department of Defense State Teacher of the Year as well as a 2016 Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Emerging Leader. Kelisa believes that all students have the capacity to learn as long as educators meet them at their points of need. Kelisa created a non-profit organization called #Squad Up for Education, Inc., to empower parents, students, and educators to commit to become partners in education. The goal is to never allow any child to fail by setting goals, developing a road map for future success, and working with the community to realize students' dreams. She also developed the Stop, Teach, Affect, Reach (S.T.A.R.) mentorship program in her school to assign every child an adult advocate. Kelisa is a Toledo, Ohio native, who enlisted in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged after serving her country for six years. Kelisa holds a Bachelor's Degree in English from The University of Maryland University College, a Master of Arts in Secondary Education, and an Educational Specialist degree with a concentration in Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. Kelisa is married with three children. See less
