Karma Waltonen asked people to join her for a weekly meeting of the "Margaret Atwood Book Club" in 2005, to help with her dissertation: "Reading Margaret Atwood in Theory and Practice: Active Reading, Witnessing, and Community". She is the former President of the Margaret Atwood Society, and is the current editor of Margaret Atwood Studies. She teaches a variety of writing courses in the University Writing Program at the University of California-Davis, in addition to courses on graphic novels, science and literature, writing and performing stand-up comedy, and The Simpsons. She co-authored The Simpsons in the Classroom: Embiggening the Learning Experience with the Wisdom of Springfield in 2010. Recent publications include articles on time travel in Star Trek, the ethics of religious cults in Doctor Who, and, of course, Margaret Atwood. See less
