She worked as a political appointee for the State Insurance Commissioner of Louisiana, Jim Donelon, as his private confidential assistant. With a keen interest in health care policy, she was appointed by Commissioner Donelon to serve as the assistant director of the Louisiana Health Care Commission, a 47 member multidisciplinary board that examines health policy developed by the Louisiana Department of Insurance addressing reform of the healthcare system insurance systems in Louisiana.
