Judy Goodspeed grew up on a farm in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, riding horses and spending hours at the practice arena with her father who was a professional steer roper. Judy Goodspeed grew up on a farm in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, riding horses and spending hours at the practice arena with her father who was a professional steer roper. After graduating from Wetumka High School, she attended East Central State College where she obtained a degree in education. Judy began her teaching career in California. After one year, she returned to Oklahoma where she taught junior high school and coached for thirty years. Her writing career began when an English teacher friend suggested she put on paper some of the stories she shared with her students. That same friend edited her work and educated her on the rules of writing. Judy's first article was published in Outdoor Oklahoma. Other articles followed in Good Old Days, The Ketchpen, Rodeo News and in area newspapers. In 2005, her first picture book, Perky Turkey's Perfect Plan was published, followed that same year by Perky Turkey Finds A Friend. Saddle Up, another picture book was published in 2007, and Perky Turkey's Fourth Of July Adventure in 2008. Her latest picture book, Emmitt Mouse Plays Santa, was published in 2013. Judy has written two nonfiction adult books, Cowboy Sweethearts was published in 2006 and Papoose City in 2011. Her first adult fiction, a western, titled Across The Red, was published in 2014.
