Josephine Pinckney
Pinckney was born in Charleston, South Carolina, where she maintained a home. She traveled widely and spent much of her time in New York City and New England. A published poet as well was author. She was a founder of the Poetry Society of South Carolina in 1920 and a citizen deeply involved in Charleston's cultural life, especially historic preservation and the preservation of Afircan American spirituals.
