Joseph Jacques Cesaire Joffre
Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre (1852-1931) was a French general and the Commander-in-Chief of the French Army from 1911-1916. Born in French Catalonia, he became a career officer in 1870. Originally an engineer, he presided over the modernization of the French Army and the first three years of the Great War. After the war, he became a member of the Académie Français.
