He is the author of eleven books about Hawai'i's beaches, surf breaks, and place names, including Hawaiian Surfing: Traditions from the Past, North Shore Place Names: Kahuku to Ka'ena, and Kalaupapa Place Names: Waikolu to Nihoa.
