John Hansen writes The Bluesuit Chroniclesfrom first-hand experience. A Washington native, he tried college briefly after high school before joining the Navy in 1966, where he was a gunner's mate aboard an amphibious assault ship that for two one-year tours plying the coastal waters and rivers of Southeast Asia and Vietnam. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1970 he was hired by the Bellevue Police Department that same year, where he was a patrolman for ten years and a detective for eleven. John's first book, Song of the Waterwheel, a romantic nonfiction story about his courtship and twenty-eight year marriage to his late wife, Kristene, whom he lost to cancer in 2009, was published in 2012. In 2013, John's Riding the Superstitions, an essay about mounted search and rescue work in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, won first place in the Arizona Author's Association statewide writing contest.
