John Finley, M.D.
A scholar, educator, administrator, lecturer, and author, John Finley (1863-1940) served as the commissioner of education for the state of New York and president of the College of the City of New York. He distinguished himself as a professor of politics at Princeton University and a Harvard University exchange lecturer at the Sorbonne in Paris. The eldest son of two early American settlers, Finley grew up in Illinois during Reconstruction.
