John Cruickshank is a native Vermonter, editor and publisher of a local weekly newspaper in Northfield, Vermont who lived in San Francisco and California for more than 45 years. During the mid 1960's he was an Assistant District Attorney in San Francisco County during some of the most violent protests brought on by the Vietnam War. Though he had been assigned to the consumer fraud unit of the D.A.'s office, he was called away from that unit to prosecute a number of Vietnam War protesters. After leaving the D.A.'s office, he worked with George T. Davis, the famed defense attorney who defended Alfred Krupp at the Nuremberg War Trials. He knew and became friendly with many of the great defense attorneys of the era including Jake Erlich whose office walls were covered with photos of Hollywood stars and starlets of the period. While he lived in San Francisco, he became enamored with the city, the natives who loved it and observed how they lived. He has allowed that love of those times to come alive in this roman a clef novel that highlights the sites and sounds, the places and playgrounds of the people of that time in the city. See less
