Joel-Peter Witkin
Joel-Peter Witkin was born (with his twin brother, the painter Jerome Witkin) in Brooklyn in 1939 to a Jewish father and a Catholic mother. He went to Catholic school until he entered high school, and in his early twenties, from 1961 to 1964, he worked as a war photographer in Vietnam.
