Jevgeni Vodolazkin (Kiev, 1964) is gepromoveerd in de oud-Russische letterkunde en kent de kroniekschrijving van de 11e t/m de 15e eeuw als geen ander. Met Het groen van de laurier veroverde hij zich in 2013 definitief een plaats in de Russische literatuur. Dit boek werd een sensatie en won meerdere prestigieuze nationale literatuurprijzen.
