Holm, retired after 33 years in the US Air Force, was the highest ranking woman ever to serve in the U.S. armed forces. She enlisted as a truck driver and proceeded by stages to become a major general. From 1965-73 she was Director, WAF. In 1976 she was appointed as Special Assistant for Women to the President.
