James Wharton is an American author of historical fiction, supernatural and humorous novels. Wharton's historical novels are developed on a foundation of extensively researched factual history. His humorous novels are loosely based on biographical events and bizarre individuals he has encountered along the way. James Wharton was born on February 22 (the same month and day as George Washington) in St. Louis, Missouri. Wharton traces his lineage to the Revolutionary War with several ancestors serving at Valley Forge. At age 14, Wharton left home to work for three years as a page boy in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force, one of which was in Southeast Asia in the Viet Nam War. Wharton is an Adjunct Professor of Economics and Marketing. His interest in history and historical fiction is a result of his family background and experience in Washington, D.C. and the military.
